Expressions of Interest for a Research Professor of Biomedical Science
Expressions of interest are invited for the position of Research
Professor of Biomedical Science in the Department of Biomedical Science,
University of Wollongong. The position is offered initially on a
full-time basis for five years. We are seeking an individual with a
proven international reputation for research excellence and the ability
to provide dynamic research leadership.
Essential Criteria
Candidates must possess a PhD, have a distinguished record of
scholarship and excellence in research leadership and have an
outstanding track record in:
* successfully attracting national competitive grants, particularly
National Health & Medical Research Council and Australian Research
Council funding (or similar for candidates outside Australia) and
other sources of research funding,
* extensive high quality publications in internationally refereed
high impact research journals,
* proven success in postgraduate and postdoctoral supervision, and
* distinguished and innovative research which compliments the current
areas of research strength within the Department of Biomedical
Science (as described below).
Candidates must also demonstrate an upward trajectory in their research
career path, with vision and a desire to develop research collaborations
within a collegial environment.
Current areas of research interest and strength within the Department of
Biomedical Science include:
* Biology of metabolism and energy balance
* Brain chemical balance in obesity and schizophrenia
* Childhood and adolescent obesity
* Human dietary intervention
* Nutrient modulation of cardiovascular and muscle function
* Musculoskeletal injury prevention and rehabilitation (biomechanical
and neuromuscular control emphasis)
* Thermal and cardiovascular exercise physiology (cardiovascular,
muscle or thermal)
