    Post-Doctoral Fellowship

Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corporation
(KMRREC), Human Performance and Movement Analysis Laboratory (HPMAL) is
seeking a post-doctoral fellow who is interested research with adult
rehabilitation populations for Ph.D.s who have studied kinesiology,
biomechanics, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and other
rehabilitation-related fields. Applicants must be a citizen or
permanent resident of the US to be eligible. Ongoing self-initiated
research is carried under the direction Dr. Sue Ann Sisto and laboratory
mentors is conducted with both neurological (SCI and CVA) and orthopedic
populations. Research areas include biomechanical and physiological
parameters due to body weight supported walking in SCI, biomechanics of
wheelchair propulsion and the relationship to upper limb pathology in
SCI, chemodenervation and spasticity, virtual reality and arm reaching
after stroke, and biomechanics of orthopedic injuries. Broader research
approaches include mathematical modeling of human movement and
physiological responses to exercise in SCI. Research training is
individualized, multidisciplinary and emphasizes the actual conduct of
research. A competitive salary and fringe benefit package is provided.

The HPMAL is equipped with the a 3D motion 6 camera motion analysis
system, including 2 in-ground force plates and 2 dynamic EMG acquisition
systems, portable metabolic system and a foot pressure sensing device.
Many workstations and software needed to process data are available.
The lab is also equipped with a Robomedica body weight support system
for the study of the recovery of locomotion after SCI. The HPMAL is
equipped with two state of the art instrumented wheels, Smart wheel (
technology, to allow for biomechanical studies of the forces involved in
wheelchair propulsion and their relationship to upper limb pathology.
Additionally, the lab is involved in balance studies, both static and
dynamic postural stability measures, with neurological populations. The
HPMAL closely affiliates with the University of Medicine and Dentistry
of New Jersey, both the departments of physical therapy and physical
medicine and rehabilitation, and the New Jersey Institute of Technology
and Rutgers University, Departments of biomedical engineering. Other
collaborating institutions include MIT, UCLA, Universities of Pittsburgh
and Washington in Seattle, and McGill University in Montreal, Canada

KMRREC is located in West Orange, New Jersey, on the campus of the
prestigious world- renowned rehabilitation institute, Kessler Institute
for Rehabilitation. KMRREC is part of the NIDRR model systems SCI
Centers. An academic appointment in the department of Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New
Jersey in Newark is available for qualified candidates. KMRREC is a
non-profit organization dedicated to medical rehabilitation research.
KMRREC's mission is to conduct cutting edge research and
state-of-the-art education in medical science, KMRREC currently has a
staff of approximately 60 dedicated research staff including 6
post-doctoral fellows funded by federal training grants, with annual
grant funding exceeding 3 million dollars plus endowments. EOE/M/F/D/V

Qualified Candidates should forward their curriculum vitae and the name
    of three references to:
