    A colleague asked if I would post the following question. You may reply to
    me or to him directly at Mknight@gw.hamline.edu

    "I know little about the javelin throw other than that which is found in
    most biomechanics texts. I've been told that men used to throw the javelin
    into the wind, until the center of gravity was moved forward, and that
    women still do throw into the wind. This seems counter-intuitive to me,
    despite the benefits that might be gained from increased lift-forces
    (sailing), understanding that drag would also increase. Could someone
    provide a definitive explanation?"
