It is my pleasure to announce that the Society for Experimental Mechanics
will be sponsoring a new technical meeting on the Mechanics of Biological
and Biologically Inspired Materials and Systems to be held in Springfield,
Massachusetts on October 2nd and 3rd, 2003. The conference will bring
together individuals from the mechanics, materials, and biology communities
to discuss advances in the mechanics-based characterization and modeling of
biological materials and its impact on the engineering of new biologically
inspired materials and systems. Complete information can be found at

been extended until June 15th.
