The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston has postdoctoral
positions available for qualified persons interested in rehabilitation
research. Postdoctoral research opportunities are available in the following
areas:
Rehabilitation in Aging. Fellows in this area will conduct research in
conjunction with the Sealy Center on Aging located at the University of
Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). The Center is involved in numerous studies
examining social, environmental, and medical interventions associated with
successful aging. Researchers are also investigating the assessment of
functional outcomes and the impact of minority status on health and
disability in older adults.
Applied Exercise Physiology & Biomechanics of Rehabilitation. Fellows in
this area will conduct research with a multi-disciplinary team examining the
biomechanics and motor control of impairment and disability. Fellows will
work with faculty from the Department of Physical Therapy and the Department
of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation.
Cognitive/Neurologic Rehabilitation. Postdoctoral Fellows in this area
will conduct research related to the basic and applied mechanisms of
cognitive and neurologic rehabilitation. Fellows will have the opportunity
to conduct community-based research in conjunction with the Transitional
Learning Community, a residential facility for persons with acquired brain
injury.

Branch, situated on the eastern end of Galveston Island, is the oldest
existing medical school and health science campus in Texas. UTMB consists
of four schools and two institutes: the Graduate School of Biomedical
Sciences, the School of Allied Health Sciences, the School of Medicine, and
the School of Nursing. It is one of 14 components of the University of
Texas System, which inÂcludes four Health Science Centers. Excellence in
research and education are of primary importance to the University of Texas
Medical Branch, which has devoted apÂproximately 212,000 square feet of
space to research activities. During the past fiscal year, the University
received more than $100 million in federal and private funds to support
about 400 extramural research and training projects. The University of
Texas Medical Branch has an excellent reputation for recruiting and
employing students, staff and faculty from disadvantaged backgrounds. In
1995 the American Association of Medical Schools listed UTMB at the 90% in
