    HARRINGTON DEPARTMENT OF BIOENGINEERING

    Rehabilitation Engineering Research Positions

The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harrington Department of
Bioengineering and the newly-formed Center for Rehabilitation Neuroscience
and Rehabilitation Engineering of the Arizona Biodesign Institute at Arizona
State University are partnering with Banner Health Systems (Good Samaritan
Regional Medical Center) to establish a joint research program in
rehabilitation engineering with a focus on technology to assist individuals
with neurological disorders. Laboratories under the direction of Professor
    James Abbas (http://www.public.asu.edu/~jabbas
) will utilize experimental studies using human subjects, control systems
design, electrical stimulation technology and biomechanical analysis
techniques to develop and evaluate rehabilitation technology. The following
full time academic professional positions are available as part of this new
    joint research program starting immediately.

Assistant/Associate Research Professional: Requires MS in Bioengineering or
a related field. The ability to perform lab management tasks, coordinate
multiple studies, and demonstrate good writing and communication skills, PhD
in Bioengineering or a related field is desired.

This person will contribute to the engineering design and analysis of
rehabilitation technology and be responsible for coordinating and assisting
with research studies that involve participation of individuals with
neurological disorders. Other responsibilities will include lab management
tasks, coordinating multiple studies, and assisting with supervision and
training of students in the lab. Continuation of this position is
    contingent upon funding.

Post-doctoral Research Associate: Requires PhD in Bioengineering or related
field. Experience in rehabilitation engineering, control systems design,
electrical stimulation technology, biomechanical analysis desired.

This person will design and develop systems that use electrical stimulation
to assist individuals with spinal cord injury. The particular focus of
these projects will be to restore standing function and to provide locomotor
retraining therapy. The projects will utilize experimental studies using
human subjects, control systems design, electrical stimulation technology,
and biomechanical analysis techniques to develop and evaluate rehabilitation
technology. Continuation of this position is contingent upon funding.

Arizona State University enrolls more than 49,000 students, 6,000 of them
within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Located within the
thriving Phoenix metropolitan area, the College is on the leading edge of
innovations in engineering education and continuously works to build
stronger alliances with the many high technology industrial partners located
    nearby.
