  • PhD position ['securiQ.Watchdog': checked]

    Title: PhD Candidate Research Assistant
Location: Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands & AO Research
    Institute, Davos, Switzerland.
    Date: 14 May 2003

A PhD candidate position is available beginning the 2003-2004 academic year
to study the mechano-biology of skeletal tissue differentiation during
fracture healing. One focus of our group is to understand the mechanical
influence on fracture healing and then to use this knowledge to improve
treatment methods. The first part of the research will involve further
development of a mechanobiological FE model of fracture healing to include
mass transport of cytokines and the response of cells. The second part will
be to use a previously developed in vivo model of fracture healing to
validate the numerical model. The two parts will be used to determine the
significance of interstitial physical conditions for modulating tissue
differentiation during bone healing. Part of this work will be performed at
the AO Research Institute in Davos, Switzerland. Academic training and most
theoretical work will be conducted at the TU/e. Compensation for room and
travelling fees will be offered while at the remote location.

Qualifications: Applicants should have an MSc (or BSc from North America)
in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or a closely related
field. Knowledge of continuum mechanics, mass transport, FE modelling, and
cell biology is helpful. Please send statement of interest, CV, and
university transcripts to the address below.
