    POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN MUSCULOSKELETAL BIOMECHANICS

BONE & JOINT CENTER, HENRY FORD HOSPITAL

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral fellowship position within the Bone and Joint Center Research Laboratories at Henry Ford Hospital. The candidate will be part of a collaborative group of investigators that includes CM Les, DVM, PhD, Head, Section of Anatomy, GJ Gibson, PhD, Head, Section of Cell Biology and DP Fyhrie, Director of Research, Bone and Joint Center. The research team has expertise in and facilities for biomechanics, computational mechanics, motion analysis, animal models, anatomy, cell biology, histology, biochemistry and molecular biology.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering or a related field. Research experience in musculoskeletal biomechanics is desired. Developed skills in one or more areas of finite element analysis, computer programming and mechanical testing are desirable. Duties and responsibilities, under minimal supervision, will include, 1) conducting mechanical tests on biological tissues and troubleshooting related experimental problems, 2) acquiring micro-computed tomography images of biological samples, performing FEM analyses and developing our existing FEM codes for different problems, 3) assisting in preparation and analysis of specimens for histology and biochemistry, 4) preparing manuscripts and abstracts for publication, and, 5) maintaining accurate and efficient functioning of instrumentation used for experiments.

The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be within the biomechanics section, however, he/she will be in close collaboration with other sections and PIs in the center. The successful applicant is encouraged to develop projects in his/her own areas of interest.
