Graduates with an honours degree, or equivalent, are invited to apply for a
scholarship funded by a European Social Fund grant. The PhD will be
undertaken at the Troyes University of Technology, in collaboration with
the Institute of Myology in Paris. The study is part of the PARAChute
project, which is financed by the French Ministry of Research under the
theme “ Smart homes for the elderly”. The objective of PARAChute of the
study is to develop a methodology and technology that will enable the
detection of an increased risk of falling in home-based elderly people. The
student will be expected to design and develop a system to evaluate of
balance and walking using sensors integrated in devices typically found in
the home. The PhD scholarship offers an annual stipend of 12,000-€ tax
free, for a period of three years. Applicants must have a background in an
area such as engineering, or biomechanics, preferably with an aptitude in
