meniscectomy and to develop techniques for the early detection of
osteoarthritis. Stage one of the project, collecting of baseline data, is
complete and three year follow-up data need to be collected and all data

The School of Human Movement and Exercise Science biomechanics group is
exceptionally well equipped with 2 Vicon Motion Analysis systems (7 camera
50Hz and 12 camera 1000Hz) and a 200 Hz Peak Motion Analysis systems, AMTI
and Kistler force plates, two multi channel EMG systems, SGI and PC
workstations. Software packages used in the group are SIMM, Matlab, Vicon
Clinical Manager, Body Builder, with C/C++ and Fortran compilers for custom
programming. Mechanical and electronic technical support staff are

data and in-vivo loading of the human knee. The tasks include: 1) to assist
in the collection of gait analysis data; 2) application and refinement of a
knee model to estimate in-vivo knee articular loading; 3) analysis of
subject specific articular forces during gait; 4) development of software
to estimate segmental contributions to knee loading; and 5) to carry out
statistical analysis of data. Applicants must have a PhD in biomechanics or
equivalent, with strong biomechanical knee modelling experience, experience
