EPSRC Ph.D. studentship (£10,500 p.a.)
The Departments of Applied Physiology and Bioengineering welcome
applications from highly motivated graduates for a 3-year EPSRC funded Ph.D.
studentship in soft tissue mechanics. The research will focus on the
experimental determination of the mechanical characteristics of IVD tissue
under different loading environments. Experimental results will be utilised
in mathematical models that predict IVD behaviour.
The successful applicant will have graduated with a 1st class, or a 2(i),
Honours degree (or equivalent) in an Engineering or a Biological Science
subject, and must be an EU citizen. A Master's qualification in relevant
area would be considered as an advantage. Because of the cross-disciplinary
nature of this project, an engineering candidate is expected to have some
biological sciences experience, and vice versa. Whatever your background,
you must be able to work in diverse and technically demanding academic
environment. Excellent laboratory skills and a strong background in
mathematics are both desirable characteristics.
The studentship is fully supported by the EPSRC and covers the tuition fees
and provides a maintenance allowance of £10,500 per annum.
