RESEARCH ENGINEER
New York Chiropractic College (NYCC), a professional degree granting
institution offering the Doctor of Chiropractic degree, and Master's degrees
in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine has an immediate opening for a
full-time Research Engineer.
Provide engineering expertise in the Biodynamics and Biomechanics
Laboratories. Responsible for the development of new research protocols and
instrumentation. Act as a technical liaison for the laboratories. Provide
other engineering support services as needed.
Assist in running and troubleshooting research laboratory equipment
including:
* Peak Performance Motus 8 motion analysis system that employs eight
high-speed cameras. Real-time OPTOTRAK 3020 three-dimensional data
acquisition system.
* Two AMTI force plates.
* 12 Channel Mespec 4000 EMG Preamplifier System for recording low
noise, artifact free EMG signals.
* Fine-wire and needle EMG instrumentation. Biodex System 2
dynamometer.
* Grass S88 nerve stimulator with stimulus isolation units and
constant current units. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulator, MagStim 2000.
* Vishay two channel strain gage conditioner (2120B) with power supply
(2110B) system. Several networked computers with accessory hardware
(printers and scanners).
Development of computer programs for data acquisition and data analyses.
Development of innovative instrumentation and / or devices to be used in
research or clinically. Development of grant proposals as either principal
investigator or co-investigator as well as providing engineering expertise.
Additional duties will include conducting general library research,
collecting, analyzing, coding, and tabulating data; ordering supplies, minor
clerical work; and supervising student workers.
Master's degree in an engineering discipline is required. Demonstrated
knowledge of three-dimensional, six degree-of-freedom kinematic analyses and
kinetic analyses. Proficiency in computer programming using Matlab, LabView,
and / or C++ for data acquisition and data analyses. Experience with
electronics troubleshooting, machining, instrumentation development, and
biomechanics research. Computer knowledge pertaining to word processing,
spreadsheets, reference database, and graphic packages is essential.
