  • PhD and PostDoc positions at Locomotion Lab in Jena

The Locomotion Laboratory at the Institute of Sport Science
at Jena University invites applications for the following two positions:

1 PhD position (starting January 1, 2004 for max. 4 years, salary
    according to BAT-O-IIa/2)
In this project, the mechanisms for gait selection during human
locomotion are addressed. Therefore, a series of experiments on an
instrumented treadmill will be performed. Additionally, using computer
simulation, potential neuro-mechanical mechanisms of walking and running
will be investigated. The results of the research will be used to
develop new design criteria and control strategies for legged robots and
new approaches in locomotion therapy for rehabilitation.
The applicant should have a solid background in mechanics. The knowledge
of computer simulation techniques is of advantage.
The applicant has a university degree and the willingness to be part of
    an interdisciplinary team.

1 PostDoc position (starting January 1, 2004 for max. 4 years, salary
    according to BAT-O-II)
In this project, biologically motivated control strategies for legged
systems will be implemented using a single leg robot testbed. Parallel
to the leg construction, human running is investigated using treadmill
experiments and computer simulation (Project A).
The applicant should have a strong background in machine engineering and
control systems. Experiences in biomechanics or mechanical modeling are
    of advantage.
The applicant has a university degree (PhD preferred) and the
willingness to be part of an interdisciplinary team.

The university is committed to employ equity and welcomes applications
from all qualified women and men, including persons with disabilities.

Review of applications will commence December 1st, 2003 and will
continue until the position is filled. Applications including covering
letter, c.v., documents, references referring to project SE1042 shall be
    send to:
