Description: A post-doctoral research fellow position funded by an NIH training
Grant is available in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science.
Research opportunities include studies involving innovative upper and lower extremity
exercise paradigms in subjects with a variety of disabilities, parallel mechanistic
studies, and epidemiologic studies. Post-doctoral fellows will participate in weekly
research seminars, journal clubs, and university sponsored courses in research
ethics and human subjects protection. Mentors are assigned to fellows according
to research interests and preferences of fellows toward desired areas of expertise.
Post-doctoral trainees are expected to have high-level academic and research skills
upon acceptance into the program. Fellows are guaranteed two years of funding with
a third year optional. The fellowship period offers mentored academic and research
training and protected time with which to develop an independent line of research.
All post-doctoral trainees are expected by the end of their training to write independent
research grants to help fund them during their early years of transition to an academic
position as an Assistant Professor.
Requirements: US citizenship. Recent PhD degree in an appropriate health care or
related field and a strong interest in the physical rehabilitation sciences.
Candidates who are physical therapists and/or who have had experience with patients
with disabilities will be given preference. The qualified candidate will possess an
understanding of and be able to utilize scientific and technical language and symbols;
the ability to troubleshoot and learn new technologies and methodologies from published
procedures; and have superior computer word-processing, data management and analysis,
and statistical spreadsheet skills. A demonstrated willingness to learn new techniques
will be considered an advantage.
Hiring Range: Salary and benefits consistent with NIH stipend levels.
