  • Two Biomechanics Faculty Openings - University of Waterloo

A second biomechanics position, in Occupational Biomechanics, is currently
open in addition to the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics position posted in
November. The closing date for both positions is January 31st/2004. Both
    positions are described below:

    Occupational Biomechanics
    Department of Kinesiology
    Faculty of Applied Health Sciences
    University of Waterloo
    Waterloo, ON, Canada

Applications are being accepted for a tenure-track position at the
Assistant Professor level in the field of occupational biomechanics.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. and should have interest and experience in
occupational biomechanics with a special emphasis on prevention of
musculoskeletal disorders and injury. The ideal candidate will have
teaching expertise in occupational biomechanics and/or ergonomics.
Additional expertise in industrial engineering, workplace interventions,
participatory workplace processes or program evaluation would be an asset.

The Department of Kinesiology is an inter-disciplinary department with
expertise spanning the social to biological study of human movement, and
is the only undergraduate program in Ergonomics in Canada. The mission of
the department is to discover and explain mechanisms and principles of
human movement and to apply this knowledge to the prevention of illness
and injury together with strategies which optimize the health and physical
performance of individuals in work and leisure activities. The department
offers B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Kinesiology.

Further information about the department can be found at
    http://www.ahs.uwaterloo.ca/kin/kinhome.html.

Applicants should send a covering letter, three names of references, and
    a curriculum vitae to
Dr.Stuart McGill, Chair of the hiring committee
    Department of Kinesiology,
    University of Waterloo
    Waterloo, Ontario
    Canada, N2L 3G1
    or by FAX: 519-746-6776
    or E-mail: mcgill@healthy.uwaterloo.ca.

candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
muscle mechanics, joint mechanics, movement/performance optimization,
determination of internal muscle and tissue forces, injury mechanisms,
and control of movement. The work will span basic to applied research
with application to injury prevention. The candidate is expected to
present both a clear path for independent research and a strong desire to
work within a well equipped research team that includes a Canada Research
Chair in Spine Biomechanics and Injury Prevention.
