2 Faculty Positions in Bioengineering and Energy
THE UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS AMHERST invites applications for two tenure track faculty positions in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, one in bioengineering and the other in energy. A PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or other appropriate field is required. Preference will be given to hiring at the rank of assistant professor, but candidates with outstanding records will be considered for a higher rank. Faculty members are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students, and develop strong sponsored research programs. For the bioengineering position, we seek a person with a strong, interdisciplinary educational background in engineering and biological or biomedical science, who will complement our ongoing research activity in biomechanics, biosystem modeling, assistive technology, and biomaterials within the department, and other bioengineering initiatives across the campus. Substantial recent investments in infrastructure provide exciting research possibilities, including the new $25,000,000 UMass – Baystate Biomedical Research Institute. For the position in energy, we seek a faculty member who will take a leadership role in energy conversion, and complement our nationally recognized research programs in renewable energy/wind energy, energy efficiency, and fluid dynamics. Some possible research areas include distributed energy systems, sustainable energy generation, or novel generation technologies. The University of Massachusetts Amherst is situated 90 miles west of Boston in the vicinity of four liberal arts colleges in a region offering exceptional cultural and recreational opportunities. Applicants should provide a statement of their teaching and research interests, curriculum vita, a list of at least three references, and an abstract for a seminar they would present if invited for an interview. Review of applications will begin January 15, 2004, and continue until suitable candidates are identified. Applications should be sent to: Dr. Donald Fisher, Chair, (Bioengineering or Energy) Faculty Search Committee, Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, University of Massachusetts, 160 Governors Drive, Amherst, MA 01003-9265. The University of Massachusetts is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and members of minority groups are encouraged to apply.
