    --- Ph.D / Post-doc Position in Joint Testing, Loading and Kinematics ---

Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery, Charité- University Medicine, Berlin

The Research Laboratories at the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery is
searching for a highly motivated, ambitious engineer, capable of testing
joint replacement implants in combination with further developing our
numerical loading and kinematic models of human joints.

Improved knowledge of the loading and kinematics of both the bone and soft
tissue structures in human joints under a variety of conditions can lead to
improved healing. With our close collaboration to the orthopaedic and trauma
clinic of the Charité, we aim to complete a number of projects based on real
clinical fractures, ligament rupture and osteotomy situations of the human
lower limb. Through increased knowledge of joint and implant loading by
mechanical testing, it is intended to develop our models such that these
clinical cases may be reliably reconstructed for optimal planning of
    surgical
    and rehabilitation strategies.

Since their conception some six years ago, the research laboratories of the
Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery have grown into a group of over 30
personel under the guidance of Professor Georg Duda. The successful
applicant will therefore become part of a highly motivated interdisciplinary
team in an extreemly sucessful scientific working environment.

The project will initially be funded for a two year term but this may be
extended further. The working languages are both English and German.

Interested candidates should send a CV, including recent publications, with
cover letter to Prof. Dr. Georg N. Duda,

    Research Labs,
    Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery,
    Charité- University Medicine,
    Berlin, Augustenburger Platz 1,

Additionally, our group will be present at the ORS in San Francisco, March
2004, possibly providing an ideal opportunity to meet and/or conduct
    interviews for the post.
