The Technical University of Ilmenau, Institute of Microsystem
technology, Mechatronics and Mechanics (Faculty of Mechanical
Engineering) invites applications for a postdoc position in the field
of
Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering,
Mechatronics, Medical Technology or Chemical Engineering
The position is limited to December 31, 2005. Salary is according
to BAT-O-IIa /2 for PhD students and BAT-O-IIa for postdocs.
We develop a wormlike- crawling device for minimal invasive
surgery. The device shall work in natural cavities (e.g. spinal canal)
and provides a tube through which the surgeon is able to insert
endoscopic instruments. To minimize the risk of the patient the
device shall be compli-ant and made of silicone rubber. For further

For production of the device a silicone prototyping equipment is
developed and set up. En-hancements and parameter definition of
the silicone prototyping equipment are the duties of the applicant.
The applicant has a university degree in a relevant field, proven
experimental skills and the willingness to be part of an
interdisciplinary team (biologist, electrical-, mechanical engineer,
physicist). Knowledge of silicone handling, LabVIEW programming
or experience with laser systems are an advantage.
