Postdoctoral Fellow Position in Soft Tissue Matrix and Mechanics

Department of Bioengineering, Rice University (bioe.rice.edu
    )

    Project Description:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow position in the
Integrative Matrix Mechanics Laboratory led by Dr. Jane Grande-Allen in the
Department of Bioengineering at Rice University. The goal of the
postdoctoral project is to investigate the relationship between
extracellular matrix, cytokines, microstructural organization, and
biomechanics of normal and diseased soft tissues using in vitro tissue
engineered surrogates, mechanical testing, and potentially mathematical
modeling. The results of these experiments will have implications for the
understanding and treatment of cardiac and valvular dysfunction in heart
failure, as well as for other cardiac diseases.

This work is supported by a Whitaker Foundation Biomedical Engineering
Research Grant and will be performed in collaboration with clinicians from
the Texas Medical Center. The initial appointment will be for 1 year, with
the possibility of extension for a 2nd year. Rice University is an EEO/AA
    employer.

    Qualifications:

Candidates should ideally have a PhD in bioengineering, biophysics, or a
related field, and have experience in cell/tissue culture or tissue
engineering. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in
biomechanics. Experience with transmission electron microscopy, image
analysis, statistics, and computer programming (i.e., Matlab or Mathematica)
is desirable but not essential. Good scientific communication skills,
enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research, and the willingness to
collaborate and develop mentoring skills are required. Consideration of
applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Interested candidates should email their curriculum vitae, statement of
research interests, and names of three references to Dr. Grande-Allen at the
contact address below. Please include a cover letter describing career
goals and motivation for postdoctoral enrichment.
