  • skin & soft tissue simulant

    Dear Biomch-L members,

I am a medical doctor at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, trying to develop a head phantom for a research project of the Dept. of Neurosurgery.
My question is whether there are any materials, which have already been tested and accepted in general as skin and/or soft tissue simulants. I am not looking for mathematical models or computer simulations, but for real materials, like silicones etc, which offer a scientifically acceptable simulation of skin and soft tissue (esp head and face) regarding (visco-)elasticity, deformability, movability etc, ie have skin and soft tissue-like mechanical properties expressed in already tested quantified variables like Young'modul. Are you aware of any existing efforts to develop such models-phantoms? What kind of relevant literature would you suggest?

Thank you for the cooperation in advance. I shall post a summary of the project as appreciation to your help, when the project is completed.

    D. Paraskevopoulos
