    Assistant/Associate Professor in Applied Physiology

    The School of Applied Physiology at the Georgia Institute of Technology
    invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track position in the
    area of biomechanics at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. Applicants
    for this position should have well-documented interests in basic and
    applied research in biomechanics and movement control. Applicants with
    research interests in aging, rehabilitation medicine, Parkinson's disease
    and/or prosthetics, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will
    be expected to contribute to the development of a graduate program in
    Applied Physiology, teach and mentor Ph.D. students, and contribute to the
    teaching of a core biomechanics course in gait analysis within the Masters
    Degree Program in Prosthetics and Orthotics. Applicants must have an earned
    PhD and a strong record of publication.

    The School of Applied Physiology is in a growth phase with strong support
    at all levels of Institute administration. Current faculty members are
    active in the areas of biomechanics and the neural control of movement,
    motor control and motor behavior, clinical prosthetics and orthotics,
    muscle physiology, and systems physiology as applied to exercise.
    Collaborations currently exist at
    Georgia Tech with the Center for Human Movement Studies (CHMS), the Center
    for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access (CATEA), the School of
    Psychology and the College of Engineering, and at Emory University School
    of Medicine with the departments of Physiology, Cell Biology, Neurology,
    Pharmacology , Internal Medicine, Vascular Surgery, Dermatology,
    Orthopedics, Rehabilitation Medicine. Numerous opportunities for
    prosthetics and orthotics collaborations exist between the School and The
    Atlanta Veterans Administration Hospital, Grady
    Memorial Hospital and local prosthetics/orthotics patient care facilities.
    Interested individuals should send a letter of application, curriculum
    vitae, and three recent publications and the names, addresses, email
    addresses and phone numbers of at least three individuals we could contact
    for letters of recommendation. Applications will be reviewed beginning
    immediately and
    continue until the position is filled, but all material must be received by
    7/15/04 to be assured of full consideration. Anticipated start date is Fall
    2004 or Spring 2005.
