  • Doctoral opportunities in cartilage and intervertebral discresearch

Subject: Doctoral opportunities in cartilage and intervertebral disc
    tissue mechanics, University of Auckland

Suitable candidates are currently being sought for doctoral studies in
the area of experimental tissue biomechanics relating to cartilage and
intervertebral disc. The programs are strongly experimental with a
primary emphasis on relating structure (micro and ultramicroscopic) to
    mechanical function and disfunction.

The research would be conducted in the Tissue Biomechanics and
Biomaterials Research Laboratory which is part of the Department of
Chemical and Materials Department in the School of Engineering,
    University of Auckland.

Applicants would need to have a strong interest in biomaterials,
structural analysis and preferably some mechanics of solids background.

A tax-free cost of living stipend of NZ $20,000 and local PhD fee
registration will be paid. Candidates who hold permanent residence
status in Australia, France and Germany would qualify for reciprocal fee
status with the University of Auckland and hence
would find the positions and related funding support especially
attractive. Others interested would need to find additional funding to
cover the higher doctoral fees charged to overseas students other than
those holding permanent residence status in France, Germany and Australia.
