Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Bone Biomechanics
at

Center for Computational Sciences

Job Description:
A postdoctoral research fellowship position is immediately available as of
July 1, 2004 in a joint research project between Department of Biomedical
Engineering and Center for Computational Sciences at Tulane University, New
Orelans, LA. We are seeking highly motivated candidates to work with a
team of researchers on the development of a high resolution computational
model of bone adaptation and growth, which include transport process
through porous medium. We plan to develop methods to allow for a hierarchy
of spatial and temporal scales into the computational model. The
successful applicant will integrate high resolution adaptive finite element
models of the human femur and spine with dynamic models of calcium
homeostasis and systemic drug treatments. The models will be evaluated
using data obtained from animal experiments and clinical observations.
Applications include design of total joint replacements, development of
treatments for diseases such as osteoporosis and scoliosis, and study of
biomechanical adaptation.
This project is funded through an NIH pre-National Program of Excellence
planning grant to the Center for Computational Sciences (CCS). The CCS is
the first Center established in the Gulf region to focus on computational
science research projects across many disciplines. The successful applicant
will have the opportunity to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects and
to gain experience in teaching at the graduate level in a team-taught
course related to this project.
Qualifications:
A hard working individual with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a
closely related field. The candidate must have experience in the
development and implementation of high resolution finite element models and
