full time opening for a Principal Engineer-Biomechanical Testing
Lab (04-130)
Principal Job Functions:
This position is responsible for managing the Biomechanical
Testing Laboratory and providing advanced technical support
toward the accomplishment of research and product development
team objectives. The individual will be responsible for
implementing and supervising research and development projects
characterizing the biomechanical performance of materials and
products. The individual directs the work of subordinate
research engineers/scientists and technicians. The individual is
responsible for coordinating the work of personnel in the
laboratory to accomplish research and development projects in a
timely and efficient manner. The individual makes technically
based decisions that are important to present and future new
products and is responsible for disseminating the research
findings of the laboratory to other functional areas of the
company and to external audiences.
• Responsible for managing the work of subordinates on research
and product testing projects.
• Monitors and directs original research that furthers the
objectives of the company.
• Is knowledgeable of the capabilities and operation of
sophisticated test equipment in the Biomechanical Lab.
• Is familiar with national and international testing standards
related to mechanical testing.
• Schedules test programs and management of workload to help
assure timely and satisfactory completion of projects.
• Maintains good oral and written communication skills and
provides timely and accurate reporting both internally and
externally.
• Monitors scientific/medical literature relevant to innovative
research and testing objectives.
• Consults with and provides technical evaluations for other
departments (Manufacturing, Legal, Development, etc.)
• Is responsible for managing the calibration, safety,
maintenance, and efficient utilization of testing equipment in
the Laboratory.
• Will work with test requestors and subordinates to develop test
programs, formulate test protocols, and choose appropriate test
equipment. This will include supervision of fabrication or
selection of new equipment as required.
Qualifications:
• A graduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in engineering is required.
Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science is preferred.
• At least five years of experience with biomechanical or
mechanical research and testing desired.
• Previous management of technical professional staff desired.
