PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER POSITION
Osteotech, Inc., headquartered in Eatontown, New Jersey, is a leading
provider of human bone and bone connective tissue for transplantation and
an innovator in the development and marketing of biomaterial and implant
products for musculoskeletal surgery.
The Product Development Department seeks a Product Development Engineer
responsible for engineering design and maintenance of medical products
including spinal implants and instruments, custom instruments, and product
sterilization cases. This position involves all phases of product
development from initial concept through product launch. The qualified
candidate will act as project leader of interdisciplinary project teams to
develop detailed product specifications from broad concepts, evaluate
market acceptance of new product ideas, identify and implement product
manufacturing, and coordinate product launch. Close interaction with
surgeon collaborators is also required.
The candidate will use CAD (Pro/ENGINEER) to create solid models, rapid
prototypes, and final production specifications. In addition, the
candidate will be expected to develop a broad knowledge base of spinal
pathology and product lines to support both the sales force and surgeon
customers. The candidate will coordinate manufacturing operations with
vendors, maintain product design discussions with hospital staff, surgeons,
and sales agents. Responsibilities also include coordination of device
testing and theoretical analysis of products to determine product safety
and efficacy.
The preferred candidate will have a strong foundation in mechanical
engineering, human physiology, and manufacturing technology. Good
analytical skills as well as excellent communication and organizational
skills are also required. A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Biomedical
engineering, or related area, is required (Master's degree is desirable).
The ideal candidate will be experienced with medical devices, orthopedic,
spinal, or sports-medicine industry experience would be a plus. Experience
with CAD/CAM software (Pro/ENGINEER) is preferred. Travel up to 10-20% is
required. Salary is competitive and depends on experience level.
