Research Assistant
BIOACTIVE COMPOSITES
The Department of Materials, based at Mile End, requires a Research Assistant to
work on bioactive composite for bone augumentation.
The project is aimed at the rapid and direct manufacture of man-made implants
for bone replacement and tissue growth based on calcium phosphates in a polymer
matrix to be laser sintered. The successful candidate will produce different
formulations for investigation at Loughborough, who will produce samples for
testing both mechanically and biologically. The candidate will need knowledge
of composite processing, mechanical testing and biomaterials, including cell
culture to measure biocompatibility and bioactivity of materials. The project
is funded for two years by a NEAT (New and Emerging Applications of Technology)
grant from Department of Health and is in collaboration with Loughborough
University.
This is a two-year fixed term to start as soon as possible. With a salary of up
to £25,777 per annum inclusive, on Research 1A Grade.
