CDC-NIOSH Job Announcement: Biomechanical Research Instrumentation

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH),
Health Effects Laboratory Division (HELD), has an opening for a
Biomechanical, Biomedical, or Electrical Engineer with EXTENSIVE
EXPERIENCE in the development of biomechanical or biomedical
instrumentation as relates to human motion monitoring and/or the
non-invasive monitoring of physiological functioning within the context
of applications pertaining to biomechanics, exercise physiology,
physical rehabilitation, work physiology, etc. The successful applicant
will be very knowledgeable in the areas of signal processing,
instrumentation interfacing, advanced microcontroller programming, and
innovative, cutting-edge sensor technologies as they may be applied to
the development of non-invasive, intelligent, wearable, state-of-the-art
miniaturized instrumentation-instrumentation that is designed to collect
information regarding the motion of human limbs and human biomechanical
and physiological functioning. Data storage/transmission technologies
and approaches to be evaluated in the future include both on-board,
flash memory data storage and real-time telemetry; sensors considered
will range from accelerometers, magnetic-based, and gyroscopes to
    acoustic and fiber-optics technologies.

Candidates must be self-motivated, have relevant experience, thrive on
challenge, evidence an enthusiastic "can do" attitude, and work well and
"sharingly" with others with others having such characteristics in a
research team environment. Knowledge and experience in using working
with C, TinyOS, and/or LabVIEW programming languages is a "plus"
(particularly the latter two). Relevant experience in multiple areas is
REQUIRED; a graduate degree is strongly desired. In the absence of a
