The Gait Analysis Department in Belfast has been established for over a
decade and has a reputation for the pursuit of excellence in clinical and
research areas. Applications are invited for the following position:
Post : Clinical Scientist/Bioengineer
Location: Gait Analysis Laboratory, Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast,
Northern Ireland
Job Summary
The postholder will be responsible for the collection, analysis and
interpretation of gait analysis data and the preparation of gait analysis
reports in association with the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist and
other clinical staff. He/she will also be responsible for the management of
the Gait Analysis Laboratory equipment and the development of the motion
analysis system to explore its maximum potential and to adapt this to the
needs of clinical and research projects. He/she will share responsibility
for the clinical service. If the successful candidate does not already
possess one, it is expected that the candidate will enrol for a higher
research degree, subject to funding.
Essential Requirements
A university degree or qualification of equivalent standing in an
appropriate discipline e.g. science, physics, mathematics, biological
sciences, engineering or computer science and membership of an associated
professional body.
Effective communication skills with an ability to interact with disabled
children and adults.
Evidence of participation in research (e.g. research degree, authorship of
publications or abstracts and/or oral/poster presentations).
Desirable Requirements
Higher Research Degree
Experience of Motion Analysis
Good computer skills related to general software (e.g. Excel, Access etc.)
and more specific modelling software (e.g. Matlab, Labview, Visual Basic
etc.)
Experience of managing research
Previous employment in a post which involved physical science applied to
medicine, bioengineering or biological science.
Grade: Clinical Scientist Grade B (Spine 13-17)
Reports to: Director of Orthopaedic Department
