Dear subscribers,
It seems to be time again for a reminder about "How & What to Post on Biomch-L".
This specifically applies to the "call for help" type of posting which is about half of the traffic on Biomch-L.
The moderator's criteria for accepting Biomch-L postings are fairly simple:
1. There should be no more than about 5 postings per day.
2. Postings should be interesting, so we do not lose our most valuable subscribers.
To achieve these goals, the moderators would like you to follow these guidelines:
1. Requests for copies of specific publications. Your institutional library can usually request a copy from another library. If this is not possible, you may post such a request on Biomch-L, but you should explain why. For instance, your library does not provide this service, the item may be rare and not available in libraries, you have a good reason why you can't wait, etc.
2. Requests for resources or information on a specific topic. This is only acceptable if you provide a summary of the literature you have already found, with a list of references. You usually get good responses if this summary demonstrates some effort, and ends with a specific question that you still need answered. Also it always helps to summarize the background of your own research project in a few sentences.
3. Signatures. Anonymous postings are not acceptable. For Biomch-L, each posting should be signed with a full name and, where appropriate, an institutional or industry affiliation.
4. Formatting. Biomch-L accepts no attachments, and only plain text formatting. Please type or paste your text into the composition window of your mail software, and format as "plain text" before sending.
Biomch-L is a great resource to get help with your projects, but it can only remain valuable if we use it wisely.
