    As a key member of the Development team, the Development Engineer will
    interact with many different functional departments and with surgeons and
    technical experts outside company. A Development Engineer is responsible
    for the design, development, and processing of implants and instruments, and
    may serve as new product development project leader. Good communication,
    teamwork and organizational skills are essential. An understanding of human
    physiology and joint mechanics is preferred.



    Primary responsibilities of the Development Engineer include helping to
    identify customer requirements for a new product; generating prototype
    models to evaluate new design concepts; designing for manufacturability,
    inspectability, and optimum cost; completing stress analysis on new designs;
    generating a comprehensive protocol for testing the product; coordinating
    product evaluation with research lab personnel and surgeons; and generating
    design assurance documentation for the project. This documentation includes
    functional performance requirements, risk analysis, design specifications,
    test protocols, periodic design review meeting minutes, and product
    blueprint specifications.



    Responsibilities of project leadership include conducting periodic
    development meetings with surgeons and key company personnel; developing
    project plans, milestones, and development cost estimates; utilizing
    leadership and motivational skills to expedite completion of critical
    project tasks with other functional groups; and communication with
    Regulatory Affairs and Legal to obtain clearance on new products. The
    ability to anticipate, prevent, troubleshoot, and solve a variety of
    processing issues is required.







    Qualifications:

    ---5+ years previous orthopaedic experience in industry (hip, knee, trauma,
    extremities implants) is STRONGLY preferred.



    ---Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical
    engineering, or other engineering science is required.

    ---Experience in development/design/testing of orthopaedic or other medical
    devices is preferred.

    ---Experience in material removal manufacturing processes for metals and
    plastics is preferred.

    ---Familiarity with drafting standards, geometric dimensioning and
    tolerancing, and manufacturing process validation are desirable.

    ---Experience successfully managing projects and staff is preferred
