    Position Title: Dean, College of Natural & Health Sciences Position #: 81422

    The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) invites applications and nominations for Dean of the College of Natural & Health Sciences. This is a new College, one of five UNC academic colleges that have emerged as the result of a campus-wide strategic planning process designed to chart UNC's future and position the campus for greatness. When formed in summer 2005 the College will enroll over 2500 undergraduate students, 250 master's students, and 110 doctoral students in its Schools of Biological Sciences, Human Services, Mathematical Sciences, Nursing, Chemistry, Earth Science and Physics, and Sport and Exercise Science.

    Position Description: This is a unique opportunity for an outstanding academic leader to be involved in the development of a new college. The Dean will be responsible for programs and the 130 faculty of the new college and will report to the provost. Duties include: strategic planning and vision; academic leadership; curriculum development; budget management; personnel matters; effective representation of the College on the University of Northern Colorado campus and to state, national, and international communities.

    Qualifications and Experience: The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate and have an academic record that qualifies for appointment at the rank of professor in an academic program of the college. The candidate must have administrative and supervisory experience at the rank of chair or higher, must have evidence of effective leadership and be willing to interact proactively with faculty, staff, students, and the community. The candidate must have a strong teaching and research record, including publications and presentations demonstrating a commitment to scholarly excellence. The candidate should have demonstrated ability to secure external financial support for instructional and research programs, and success in fundraising and other advancement activities and must have the ability and willingness to foster positive relations with alumni, donors, and friends of the college. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the management and operation of academic and research programs is expected. The candidate shall provide evidence of success in advancing diversity in an evolving multicultural campus and community setting.

    Salary and Benefits: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include health, life and dental insurance as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs.

    Starting Date: July 2, 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter.
