EXERCISE AND SPORT SCIENCE
The Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of San
Francisco invites applications for a tenure-track position in clinical
exercise and health promotion at the Assistant Professor level to begin in
the Fall of 2005.
Department: The Department of Exercise and Sport Science currently serves
approximately 120 undergraduate students. We offer both a Bachelor of Arts
and a Bachelor of Science degree. The department also has a minor in
exercise and sport science and is currently involved in developing campus
wide interdisciplinary minors in Gerontology, Health Communication and
Neuroscience. The Department also offers undergraduate physical activity
courses for majors and non-majors. The majority of our students are
interested in post-baccalaureate work in allied health-related fields, as
well as the sport, exercise and fitness industries. Faculty interests
include physical activity and healthy aging, motor behavior, sports
biomechanics and performance, community health issues, exercise and health
management, and pedagogy in physical education.
Responsibilities: Teaching duties may include, inter alia, human anatomy
and physiology, clinical exercise and disease prevention, exercise and
public health, nutrition, and health promotion strategies. The successful
candidate will be expected to develop an independent and ongoing research
program in the area of health and fitness promotion or public health
issues. Opportunities are available to involve undergraduate students in
faculty research. Additional responsibilities may include supervising
structured internships for ESS students working in community settings
relevant to exercise, fitness, and health.
Qualifications: University teaching experience; evidence of research
scholarship; an earned doctorate in health education, exercise science, or
a related field by Fall 2005; experience working with community groups on
health and fitness promotion projects; willingness to work in a culturally
diverse environment; and an understanding of and commitment to support the
mission of the University are required.
