  • about electrogoniometer replies

There are not many replies came up. I guess I could not get electrogoniometer users' attention.
    Here is the message;
    Hi there;
We have a gait lab in Istanbul Medical University which has 6 TV
    camera, 2
force plate and 8 ch. EMG. Unfortinately we have difficulties
    sometimes to
track the markers for little guys(like children who 2- 3 years of age)
    and
also the system that we use allow only lower extremity and Trunk motion
analysis. So to obtain kinematic data from small children and upper
extremity we are planning to purchase electro goniometric motion
    analysis
system (like Infrotronic Gait Analysis or Ultraflex Gonio ) which has
    some
sensors like XM65 or Z110 for twin axis or single axis measurement
    during
    activity of daily living.
Unfortunately we do not have much experience about advandages and
disadvantages of this kind of systems over camera based gait analysis.
    We
appriciate if some one who has experience with those systems share info
    with
    us.
    Thanks

    Hi Ekin,
I'd think seriously about a Vicon system. The new cameras are
    extremely hi-resolution. I have a 6m x 6m x 2.5m volume and can easily
reconstruct eighteen 9.5 mm markers on a single foot; whole body gait
    analysis is even easier.

    Hi Elkin,

Peak has tracking software and hardware that would allow you to place
your markers closer together than what your Elite system would allow.
Also, much of your hardware (video cameras, force plates, EMG) should be
compatible with our system, thus you would not have to replace all your
    hardware.

If you think this may be a useful alternative to electrogoniometers,
please let me know. I would be happy to send you more detailed
    information.

    Sincerely,

Have you looked into a magnetic gait system? See: www.innsport.com

Magnetic, optical and inertial motion tracking technologies
    for 3D computer graphics interaction.

November 2004: Did you know that Ascension is the only company
in the world that designs, develops and manufactures 5 different
    motion tracking technologies?
    - Active Optical
    - Optical Scanning
    - DC Magnetic
    - AC Magnetic
    - Inertial
Ask me which technology is best for your application.

    Dear Ekin,

You cannot use goniometers if you want joint kinetics.

Also, I would advis you to check your tracking setup is optimal before
you consider changing to electrogoniometers. You should be able to
    track
    children with your Vicon.
