    ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION
    Associate Professor in Motor Control
    Full-Time (9-month) Tenure Track Position

    Arizona State University seeks a motor control faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology for a full-time (9-months) tenure track Associate Professor position. Duties include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in motor control and learning, neuroscience, biomechanics, or research methods; publishing research in area of specialization; pursuing external funding and developing resources to provide on-going support for research activities; forming research collaborations with scientists in medical, industrial, governmental facilities in the greater Phoenix-metropolitan area or in ASU departments/schools of Bioengineering, Psychology, Bio Design Institute, Computer Science, and Life Sciences; advising and mentoring masters and doctoral students; serving on various department and college committees and participating actively in professional organizations.

    Required Qualifications:
    1) earned doctorate,
    2) evidence of specialization in motor neuroscience/neurophysiology or kinesiology,
    3) four or more years of experience in a research institute or university setting ,
    4) evidence of success in securing NIH or NSF funding for research in motor control and learning,
    5) evidence of a consistent record of research published in top-tiered refereed journals,
    6) demonstrated evidence of teaching undergraduate and graduate students in motor control,
    7) demonstrated potential to develop a nationally-recognized program in the area of specialization,
    8) evidence of desire to form research collaborations with scientists within or outside of the university.

    Desired Qualifications:
    1) evidence of post-doctoral training,
    2) evidence of on-going funding for research,
    3) demonstrated evidence of teaching undergraduate or graduate neuroscience, biomechanics or research methods courses.

    The Department of Kinesiology (http://www.asu.edu/clas/kines/) has 18 faculty and state-of-the-art laboratories dedicated to research in Motor Control, Motor Development, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Biochemistry, Neuroendocrinology and Sport Psychology. The department is currently located in two buildings. One of the buildings houses the Exercise and Sport Research Institute consisting of over 14,000 square foot dedicated to research laboratories. These areas are designed to facilitate cross- and interdisciplinary research and provide the potential for a wide range of research and instructional activities. The current student population consists of 751 undergraduate majors and 33 graduate students. The selected candidates will join a dynamic and active group of existing motor control researchers in the Department and at ASU. The motor control group in the Department of Kinesiology has an established record of productivity and federal support for its research programs. Research foci include oculomotor control and control of multi-joint movements during handwriting, drawing, reaching and grasping. A variety of experimental approaches are used ranging from intramuscular EMG to recording movement kinematics and kinetics. The motor control group also has strong links with local, national, and international motor control and neuroscience research groups. These interactions include research collaborations and NIH- and NSF-funded interdisciplinary graduate programs in motor neuroscience. The selected faculty will participate in the creation of a Motor Control Research Center strategically placed to effectively interact with the scientific and clinical community.
