Title: Biomechanical Research Assistant
Location: The Medical Education and Research Institute
of Colorado (MERIC), Colorado Springs, CO
The Medical Education and Research Institute of
Colorado (MERIC) is a non-profit institute that
provides research and surgical training opportunities
for medical professionals. The goal of the research
program is to help clinicians improve the treatment
methods prescribed for their patients. Physicians
specializing in orthopedic surgery and pain management
work with MERIC researchers to develop the basic
science and clinical follow up studies performed in
the laboratory. The laboratory is equipped with
mechanical testing equipment and computational
facilities, which are used for musculoskeletal
biomechanics research.
Job Start date: December, 2004
Description: Full-time biomechanical research position
Responsibilities:
1. Preparation and testing of cadaveric specimens on
the MTS servo-hydraulic testing machine.
2. Analysis of MTS results.
3. Assist in journal publication of papers.
4. Assist with medical image reconstruction and
computational modeling via MatLab.
5. Assist Clinical Research Associate with patient
recruitment, monitoring, follow-up and data analysis.
6. Update website and manage e-mail accounts.
7. Provide assistance to staff and students who
utilize the laboratory space and equipment.
Qualifications: BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or
a related discipline. Previous experience operating a
servo-hydraulic testing machine and computer skills
including MatLab, Microsoft Word, Excel and/or Access
and FrontPage is preferred.
Relocation: MERIC will not be able to provide
relocation costs for this position, although
candidates willing to relocate at their own expense
will be considered.
