    Senior Lectureship in Biomedical Engineering


    The Department of Mechanical & Biomedical Engineering wishes to recruit
    an outstanding individual for the above permanent post. Since its
    establishment at NUI, Galway, in 1998, the Biomedical Engineering
    programme has experienced rapid expansion with respect to undergraduate
    student numbers, postgraduate research students, research funding, and
    industry interaction. The undergraduate programme in Biomedical
    Engineering is interdisciplinary in scope with students taking courses
    in the Engineering, Science, and Medical and Health Sciences Faculties.

    The Department is also affiliated with the National Centre for
    Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES), which is located on the NUI,
    Galway campus. This Centre was established in 2000 and moved in
    September, 2003, to its new ˆ20 million purpose built building which
    houses state of the art equipment. Research personnel at the centre
    include 35 from the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering.


    The appointee will be required to:

    * Assume a role in both the teaching and research aspects of
    Biomedical Engineering.
    * Contribute to the teaching of existing courses in biomechanics
    and medical implant and device design and supervise undergraduate
    student projects.
    * Work with interdisciplinary research groups spanning science,
    engineering, medicine and industry.
    * Provide expertise in one or more areas of interest to the
    Department such as experimental tissue or cellular biomechanics,
    regenerative medicine, medical device design, quantitative analysis of
    biological systems and advanced biomaterials.

    The successful applicant will:

    * Hold a PhD in Biomedical Engineering or in another engineering
    discipline.
    * Have significant publication record or equivalent industrial
    experience in Biomedical Engineering.
    * Have demonstrated an ability to attract substantial research
    funding.
    * Possess interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to
    communicate both with students and colleagues over a wide range of
    disciplines and interests.

    Salary: ˆ59,908.68 x 7 = ˆ84,894.60 per annum
