PhD Studentship in Biomechanical Modelling
please note there is a new deadline - 31st Jan 2005
Departments of Bioengineering and Musculoskeletal Surgery
Imperial College London
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship provided by British International Rowing and the Henley Stewards Charitable Trust in biomechanical modelling of rowing. The project will be jointly supervised by Dr Alison McGregor of the Department of Musculoskeletal Surgery and Dr Anthony Bull and Professor Bob Schroter of the Bioengineering Department. These departments have both received the highest research rating (5*) in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise.
The BioDynamics Research Group at Imperial College has been investigating aspects of back pain, performance and injury of rowers. This project has reached an advanced stage with specialised instrumentation and data acquisition systems. This study will apply mathematical modelling techniques to investigate the effect of rowing technique and equipment on lower back pain. The student should have a first class or upper second class degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.
A stipend and fees will be awarded. Students must satisfy the eligibility criteria, including UK or EU residence for three or more years. For further details of the post please contact Dr Anthony Bull on 020 7594 5186.
The studentship is available with immediate effect and applicants should register their interest by sending an up-to-date curriculum vitae to Dr Anthony Bull at a.bull@imperial.ac.uk , and by submitting an application form (which can be downloaded from http://www.imperial.ac.uk/pgoptions ).
