of the University of Maryland Baltimore is inviting applications for two
open research positions: one Post-Doctoral research fellow and one
Research Engineer. The specific projects are concerned with research and
development of blood-wetted artificial organs (artificial heart,
ventricular assist devices, blood oxygenating devices, etc) and studies
of biologic responses to these devices (cardiac biomechanics,
hemodynamics, blood biocompatibility). These projects are conducted
within a multidisciplinary research and design team consisting of
surgeons, cardiologist, surgical residents, scientists, engineers and
students. These positions are available immediately.

Qualifications for the Post-Doctoral Position: A PhD or equivalent
degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical
engineering, chemical engineering or related disciplines is required.
Preference will be given to applicants with expertise and experience in
    biomechanics, biorheology, biocompatibility, cardiovascular research,
and implantable medical devices. Candidate must be ambitious,
conscientious and hard working. This is not a 9-5, 5 days a week
    position.

Qualifications for the Research Engineer: A Master's Degree or A BS
degree in engineering with two years of direct research experience in
biomedical engineering. The ideal candidate's experience includes design
and development of implantable medical devices. Hands-on" experience
with instruments and devices, and engineering experimental skills would
be valuable. Knowledge of CAD software is desirable. The person for
this position must be detail-oriented and focused while seeing the big
