Full time faculty position in Mechanobiology and Tissue Engineering
Reference code: 24/2016
Beginning from the academic year 2005-2006 there is a vacancy for a full
time faculty position at K.U.Leuven in the Department of Mechanical
Engineering, Division of Biomechanics and Engineering Design, with the
following profile.
The area of scientific research will be Mechanobiology and its
applications in Tissue Engineering, and the research will be done in
intensive collaboration with teams of the Faculty of Medicine
(Rheumatology, Dentistry, Endocrinology, Orthopaedics) The study will
focus on the impact of mechanical factors (strains and stresses, fluid
flow, vibrations and waves) upon the differentiation of cells and the
growth of bone and cartilage tissue, and will be made by experimental
research in vitro and on animal models as well as by numerical modelling
and simulation. Clinical applications are situated in tissue regeneration
(e.g. development of CAD-methods for supporting scaffolds) as well as in
tissue healing and amelioration: treatment and prevention of osteoporosis,
stimulation of fracture healing. The candidate will act as a promoter or
co promoter of ongoing and new projects in collaboration with the
abovementioned teams.
The teaching assignment includes courses in Biomechanics (postgraduate and
graduate program), "Mechanobiology and tissue engineering" (graduate
program) and "Engineering Mechanics 2" (second year undergraduate program,
in Dutch)
Those wishing to present themselves as candidates should use the form A3
(with the questionnaire). The form can be downloaded from
http://www.kuleuven.ac.be/admin/rd/niv3p/ad-f02-j1.htm
