Faculty position: Biomechanics of implants and bone structures
Reference code: 24/2021
Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Department of Mechanical Engineering,
Division Biomechanics and Engineering Design
Implementation: academic year 2006-2007
Beginning from the academic year 2006-2007 there is a vacancy for a full
time faculty position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering,
Division of Biomechanics and Engineering Design, with the following
profile.
The area of scientific research will be Biomechanics, more specifically
experimental research as well as numerical modelling of orthopaedic and
dental implants and bone structures. The research will focus on the
influence of biomechanical and material factors upon the osseointegration
and long term functionality of orthopaedic and dental implants, and upon
the development of diagnostic and monitoring techniques for
osseointegration, osteoporosis, fracture healing and bone formation.
Techniques to be developed and applied are: finite element modelling and
computer simulations; mechanical tests; vibration and ultrasound
propagation analysis techniques; and animal experiments including tissue
characterization by micro-CT and other imaging and measuring techniques.
The research will be performed in close collaboration with teams of the
Faculty of Medicine (Orthopaedics, Dentistry, Rheumatology,
Periodontology) as well as with the Department of Metallurgy and Materials
Engineering. The candidate will act as a promoter or co promoter of
ongoing and new projects in collaboration with the abovementioned teams.
The teaching assignment includes courses in "Biomechanics" (postgraduate
and graduate program, co-chair), "Biomaterials" (postgraduate program) and
tutorials in "Engineering Mechanics 1 and 2" (first and second year
undergraduate program, in Dutch).
Those wishing to present themselves as candidates should use the form A3
(with the questionnaire). The form can be downloaded from
http://www.kuleuven.ac.be/admin/rd/niv3p/ad-f02-j1.htm
The application file (Application form + file based on the questionnaire)
should be handed over or sent by registered mail, in two copies per code
to: Human resources department, Parijsstraat 72b, 3000 Leuven, tel + 32 16
32.83.01
and before 6 January 2006 (vacancies 2006-2007).
Candidates wishing to apply earlier are welcome to submit an application
file by 7 January 2005 (deadline for vacancies 2005-6). However, these
applications will not be formally evaluated until after 6 January 2006.
