    SECOND MOTOR CONTROL SUMMER SCHOOL

    We invite bright and open-minded graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and young professionals to apply for admission to the Second Motor Control Summer School (MCSS). The Second MCSS will be a five-day event , June 24-28, 2005. It will include an arrival day (June 24), three days of sessions (June 25-27), and a departure day (June 28).

    We plan to bring together 6-10 faculty and about 25 students selected from the pool of applicants. The event is open ONLY for advanced graduate students who plan to be motor control researchers, equally advanced postdoctoral fellows, and young professionals.

    Acceptance criteria:
    (1) Relevant experience reflected, in particular, in the number of publications;
    (2) Not more than one student per group will be accepted (including the groups led by the faculty);
    (3) Preference will be given to productive, advanced (a) graduate students and (b) postdoctoral fellows;
    (4) Balanced representation of different sub-areas in motor control such as neurophysiology, psychology, biomechanics, modeling, rehabilitation, etc.
    (5) Students who attended the First MCSS will get the lowest priority.

    The program will involve LECTURES AND DISCUSSIONS OF HOT TOPICS INCLUDING ISSUES RAISED BY THE STUDENTS, FOR EXAMPLE RELATED TO THEIR CURRENT OR PLANNED PROJECTS.

    There will be no tutorials; the students should know basic anatomy, muscle physiology, neurophysiology, biomechanics, basic calculus, basic operations with vectors and matrices, statistics, etc. The style of the lectures and discussions will be frank and open.

    TUITION: NONE!!!

    Each participant will pay his/her expenses. There will be no tuition, and the faculty will receive no compensation for their participation. All participants will get a formal certificate to help them get reimbursed through whatever means they have at their disposal.

    SITE:

    We have made an arrangement with a Conference Center "Antiochian Village" in the Laurel Mountains area of Pennsylvania. The Center is about 90 min of driving from the Pittsburgh International Airport and about 30 min of driving from a smaller airport in Johnstown, PA. The closest town is Ligonier, PA. The current rates range from $350 to $450 (approximately, depending on single or double occupancy) for four nights including meals. Please, do not contact the Center and do not make any arrangements until you get an official acceptance letter to join the Second MCSS.
