POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION IN EEG/MOTOR CONTROL

Applications are invited for a three-year postdoctoral fellowship position in the Perception and Motor Systems Laboratory, School of Human Movement Studies, The University of Queensland, Australia.

The successful applicant will be expected to have experience and research interests in areas relevant to an Australian Research Council supported project entitled "Cortical Mechanisms Mediating Bilateral Interactions Between the Upper Limbs". The Fellow will be involved in all aspects of the project, and will work in close collaboration with the Chief Investigators Prof. Richard G. Carson and Dr. Stephan Riek.

High resolution EEG recordings and MRI-based source reconstruction techniques, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), multi-channel EMG, and kinematic measures of movement performance, will be used to determine the cortical mechanisms that mediate coordinated movements of the upper limbs.

We are seeking individuals to adapt/refine and apply cutting-edge tools to analyses of high-density EEG data, including brain source imaging, assessment of functional connectivity and other modeling methods. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in computational or cognitive neuroscience (or in an area that provides similar background) with substantial mathematical/computational experience (especially in time series, dynamical systems analyses, and neurophysiological signal processing,). Prior experience with electromyography and transcranial magnetic stimulation would be an advantage.

This is a full-time fixed-term appointment for a period of 3 years. The salary will be in the range of $52,869 to $70,940 (AUS) per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.

Preferred starting date: 28th February 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter.
