Dear colleagues,
Please see below for general information on and abstract instructions
for the 2nd Frontiers in Biomechanics Symposium, sponsored by the US
National Committee on Biomechanics (USNCB).
The Symposium will be held on June 20-21, 2005, at the Vail Cascade
Resort in Vail, Colorado, just prior to the American Society of
Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Summer Bioengineering Conference (for more
information on that conference, see
http://www.asme.org/divisions/bed/events/summer05.html).
Attendance to the Symposium will be capped to approximately 100
attendees.
Do not miss out on this unique and rewarding meeting that will highlight
important new "frontier" areas in biomechanics. Abstract submission
deadline is Feb 15, 2005.
Sincerely,
David A. Vorp, Ph.D.

The Second US National Symposium on Frontiers in Biomechanics: Forging
a New Biomechanics in the Era of Modern Biology
June 20 - 21, 2005
Biomechanics is a rapidly growing field of research and application to
important biological and medical problems. To accommodate this
expansion of activities, the United States National Committee on
Biomechanics cordially invites you to attend and participate in the
First US National Conference on Biomechanics. This Frontiers Meeting
will be focused on a selected set of bioengineering topics that provide
a broad range of new opportunities for researchers and students in
Biomechanics. The meeting will have a single track of oral sessions and
free communications presented in poster format.
Program Topics: Embryonic Growth Biomechanics
Biomechanics of Speciation and Evolutionary Biology
Dynamic Structure/Function Imaging
Abstract Submission: Free communications are invited from all
investigators in Biomechanics. They will be presented in poster format.
Acceptance of Abstracts to the Conference is competitive with priority
given to those with emphasis on novelty of the area of investigation and
medical significance. All accepted abstracts will be awarded a Merit
Certificate of Recognition from the United States National Committee on
Biomechanics. Abstract submission instructions are available at the
registration site (and are attached). Abstract Submission Deadline is
February 15, 2005.
Registration: Registration information is available at
www.biofluidseducation.org/usncb.
Conference Location: Vail Cascade Resort & Spa, Vail, CO
Conference Co-Chairs: Naomi Chesler (UW-Madison), James Moore Jr.
(Texas A&M) and David Vorp (U Pittsburgh)

faculty appointment) are invited to apply for a travel scholarship to
attend the meeting of up to $500. Registration fees will also be
waived. Selection will be based on a CV and a short, one-page abstract
that describes your research objectives. Support for new faculty
participation is provided by the Whitaker Foundation.
