POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Cleveland FES Center is seeking an experienced Physical Therapist to
join a dynamic interdisciplinary team investigating new technical and
surgical interventions to restore or enhance motor performance after SCI or
stroke. The Physical Therapist will be primarily responsible for the
hands-on application of new functional electrical stimulation (FES) systems
and other cutting-edge prosthetic and orthotic devices for exercise,
standing posture and balance, ambulation, and seated trunk control after
paralysis. Duties include the clinical management of volunteers
participating in various research projects and involve scheduling baseline
assessments, conducting training and therapy sessions, and evaluating
treatment outcomes. The Research PT will participate in pre-surgical
planning, bodyweight supported treadmill training and robotic therapies,
dynamometry and quantitative gait and posture analyses in our comprehensive
motion study facility. Applicants should have a degree in PT, at least 3
years experience in neuro- or SCI rehabilitation, a current license to
practice in Ohio, and the ability to interact effectively with disabled
consumers, rehabilitation engineers, other clinicians and researchers. The
Cleveland FES Center is a consortium consisting of the Department of
Veterans Affairs, Case Western Reserve University and MetroHealth Medical
Center dedicated to developing new technologies and techniques to improve
the independence and quality of life of individuals with disabilities.
