The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at Virginia Tech seeks a
candidate for a tenure track, teaching and research faculty position.
The position is targeted at the Assistant Professor level, but
outstanding applications at the Associate or Full Professor level will
be considered. Primary consideration will be given for research
interests in the following areas: biomedical engineering and
biomechanics; energy production and utilization; micro and nanosystems;
and design theory and methodology. Applicants with strong
interdisciplinary interests are encouraged. Successful applicants must
have a doctorate and will be expected to develop a strong research
program and contribute to the educational mission of the department at
both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
The ME Department has embarked on an exciting growth plan that will
include up to 15 new faculty positions over the next five years.
Currently, the ME Department has 37 faculty members with an enrollment
of approximately 800 undergraduate students and 200 graduate (70 PhD)
students. Tech's programs in Mechanical Engineering are consistently
ranked in the top 5% of Mechanical Engineering Departments in the nation
by U.S. News and World Report. External research support is $5.5
million per year. Faculty and students conduct research in 22 on-campus
centers and laboratories and participate in collaborations with many
