CLAWAR-2005: Eighth International Conference on Climbing and Walking Robots and
the Support Technologies for Mobile Machines
and
Introductory Workshop on Mobile Robotics
London (UK), 12 - 15 September 2005
The CLAWAR 2005 will be organised by the Department of Automatic Control and
Systems Engineering, University of Sheffield (UK) in London (UK) during 12 - 15
September 2005. The conference will include
· One day Introductory Workshop on Mobile Robotics on 12 September 2005
· Climbing Robot Competition on 12 September 2005
· Three-days conference during 13 - 15 September 2005, which will include
plenary and regular oral and poster presentations.
· Robotics (industrial and academic research) exhibition during the conference.
Social programme comprising, welcome reception, conference banquet and tour, is
also organised.

SCOPE:
The scope of the conference will include but not limited to:
Research: Autonomous and tele-operated CLAWAR, Biological systems and
solutions,
Modelling, Simulation and design of CLAWAR, Control of CLAWAR, Co-operative
CLAWAR machines, Design modularity and system architecture, Edutainment, HMIs
for CLAWAR, Innovative actuators and power supplies, Learning robot, Locomotion
algorithms, Micro-machines, Navigation, Reconfigurable robots, Sensors and
sensor fusion, Telepresence, Virtual reality.
Applications: Assistive technology, Biomedical, Construction, Education,
Emergency rescue operations, Entertainment, Helping the elderly and disabled,
Indoor & outdoor operations, Manufacturing, Nanotechnology, NDT, Performing
robots, Personal robotics, Petrochemical, Pipes and duct inspection,
Rehabilitation, Security and surveillance, Service robotics, Underwater &
space.
CONTRIBUTIONS:
Contributions will fall into regular papers and specials session papers. The
length of initial paper submission in each case as an extended abstract will be
limited to three A4 pages and of the final papers will be limited to a maximum
of eight A4 pages.
Regular papers:
Prospective authors of regular papers should submit their contributions
electronically via the conference web site.
Special session papers:
Proposals for invited sessions including abstracts of 6-7 papers with full
contact details of the corresponding authors should be submitted by the
proposer via the conference web page. Invited papers can also be submitted
through the normal route of technical paper submission, with an indication that
the paper is for an invited session. Several special sessions have already been
proposed for consideration, and details can be found in the conference web-site
under special sessions.
Prospective exhibitors, participants of climbing robot competition and
colleagues wishing to participate in the introductory mobile robotics workshop
should follow relevant instructions on the conference web-site.
CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS
Conference proceedings will be published by Springer in hard-bound print. The
proceedings will also be made available to delegates electronically on a CD.
Publication of accepted papers in the conference proceedings will be subject to
payment of registration fee and presentation at the conference. Consult the
conference web-pages for details of registration fees and methods of payment.
