POSITION TITLE: Assistant / Associate Professor
APPOINTMENT TYPE: Probationary or tenured
POSITION DESCRIPTION: We seek an individual genuinely interested in serving as the Program Director for the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP). Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Provide leadership for the ATEP Instruct, direct, and advise undergraduate students in the ATEP (B.S Kinesiology-Athletic Training) and graduate students in the M.S. Kinesiology program
2. Develop and maintain an active research program in a field related to athletic training (e.g. injury etiology/mechanisms, rehabilitation), seek extramural funding
3. Develop and maintain liaisons with other academic units, student services units (e.g. Athletics, Student Health Center), and community agencies (e.g. hospitals, clinics, schools)
4. Work in cooperation with the Director of Sports Medicine in coordinating athletic training services through the Department of Athletics and the Student Health Center
5. Engage in university and scholarly/professional service activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Ph.D. in a discipline related to athletic training (e.g. Kinesiology or related discipline)
2. Current BOC certification and eligible for State of Wisconsin Licensure with 2-3 years of experience
3. Evidence of prior college level instruction, administrative experience, and supervision of athletic training students
4. Knowledge of CAAHEP/JRC-AT accreditation requirements
5. Active research record related to athletic training
6. Demonstrated commitment to related scholarly/professional organizations
7. Evidence of extramural funding experience
OVERVIEW: The CAAHEP accredited, undergraduate ATEP is offered by the Department of Human Movement Sciences (housed within the College of Health Sciences) in cooperation with the Athletics Department and Norris Student Health Center. The ATEP was accredited in 2003 for 5 years and has a current enrollment of approximately 40 students. Graduates of the ATEP successfully pass the BOC examination at a first-time pass rate well-above the national average and have been placed in entry-level positions as well as graduate school across the United States. The ATEP has strong support from community affiliates such as area hospitals, clinics, high schools, colleges, and professional sports organizations. ATEP faculty/staff includes 2 Ph.D. trained, tenure-track faculty, a clinical coordinator, and 5 full time ATC's including a physical therapist and a strength and conditioning specialist. All provide athletic training services, contribute to classroom instruction, and supervise undergraduate ATEP students. UWM has 15 NCAA Division I athletic teams and approximately 270 student-athletes. The athletic training staff also provides services to the general student body through the student health center. The Department of Human Movement Sciences offers B.S. and M.S. degrees, and the College of Health Sciences offers a multi-disciplinary Ph.D. in health sciences. The multidisciplinary human movement science M.S. program is offered to students who include, among others, practicing allied health professionals, and educators. Several ATC's are currently enrolled in the M.S. Kinesiology program, and 2 students with ATC credentials are enrolled in the Ph.D. program. Departmental instructional/research facilities include Motor Control/Learning, Psychology, Sociology, Biomechanics, and Exercise Physiology. There are 16 full-time faculty and academic staff members in the department. The College of Health Sciences is also implementing a Doctor of Physical Therapy program over the next few years. A new, 1700 square foot athletic training facility will be completed in the Fall of 2005.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience
