    Postdoctoral Fellow: Developmental Motor Control
University of Michigan, Division of Kinesiology

Principal Investigator: Bev Ulrich (Univ of MI)
Co-Investigators: Ken Holt, Elliot Saltzman (Boston U.)

Position Description: We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to
join our studies of the development of motor control. We are using and
developing a mathematical model to focus on how global stiffness and
forcing contribute to the forward motion of the center of mass during
walking overground and on a treadmill. In particular, we compare
populations with and without Down syndrome to those with typical
development, over the lifespan. In addition to using a Peak Motus Real time
system to collect body position data, we typically record EMG, GAITRite,
and forceplate data as well. Applicants for this position should have a
background in dynamic systems theory, an interest in modeling and
simulation of human movements (preferably locomotion), programming skills
(Matlab, ADAMS, C++), some experience with/understanding of non-linear
dynamics, and have a Ph.D. in biomechanics, motor control, or a related

Responsibilities: Devote 100% time to this project, including overseeing
the day-to-day operation of the project, maintaining the accuracy and
integrity of all technical equipment, organizing the data processing and
management, and working on details of the mathematical model and algorithms
supporting the derivation of model parameters. This person will also serve
as the day-to-day link between the Michigan and Boston University research
teams. Start date: August 1, 2005

Applicants: send cover letter, curriculum vita, and the contact information
    for three references to:
