Postdosctoral Fellowship at the Dipartimento di Matematica

One postdoctoral fellow is sought to join the Department of Mathematics at
the Politecnico di Torino - Italy for a period of one year starting before
January 2006. The project is supported by the Italian Ministry for Education,
University and Research (MIUR) thanks the FIRB project.
The subject of the research will concern mathematical modelling of biological
phenomena in which mechanical aspects play a relevant role. Specific issues
of interest are
- stress modulated growth of soft biological tissues, with a special emphasis
on arterial walls,
- adhesion, traction and locomotion of endothelial cells.
The candidates are required to have a strong background in mathematical
methods of continuum mechanics and a specific interest in biological
applications. A good knowledge of numerical methods for partial differential
equations and inverse problems are a desirable plus.
