The Mechano-Biology Program of the AO Research Institute is looking for a
highly motivated, innovative and knowledgeable person to join our research
team. The current research focus of this program is mechanobiology of bone
healing and intervertebral disc degeneration and its treatment. The
methodologies include in vivo and in vitro experimentation in conjunction
with numerical modeling. The group is composed of a senior scientist,
post-doctoral fellows, engineers, PhD candidates, medical and veterinary
doctors and technical students.
To compliment these topics of research we are searching for a
post-doctoral candidate with research experience in bone morphology and
structure. A Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or
related discipline is required. Preference will be given to applicants
with experience in CT methodology and experimental biomechanics. Previous
exposure in areas of tissue engineering, cell biology, biochemistry and/or
molecular biology will be valued.
The applicant will be asked to develop a field of research pertaining to
mechano-biology of bone especially as it pertains to trauma and disease
states such as osteoporosis. In addition to primary research
responsibilities, management of CT facilities including a micro CT and
Extreme CT as well as participation in projects from other teams is
anticipated. Research will be in a team environment and the degree of
project leadership with engineer and student supervision will be
commensurate with the experience of the applicant. Proficiency in English
is required, and some German will be helpful.
